Who we are

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

My Lord, Jesus, held me through many bad decisions even when I didn’t know Him or accept Him into my life. He has a plan for me and you. For me He has “made daisies out of dog crap”. Ok I’ll write a better analogy soon.

As a kid I made crude things in ‘Industrial Arts’ classes, learning the basics of woodworking. Count your fingers going into the shop (ten), then count again coming out. Should be the same number.

My career was not in the wood industry in any capacity. But upon retirement I looked around for ways I could keep my brain and body invigorated. Woodworking seemed to be my best option and I discovered an avenue to create things that I can share, maybe even sell. I was blessed with the opportunity of taking an extended college course in Fine Woodworking. This gave me the tools to develop my skills – from effective tool sharpening to marquetry, hand crafted joinery and live edge table and cabinet construction. I will be a life long learner of this craft.

Functional Art is appreciated through the eyes and the fingertips – I strive to create furniture pieces which allow you to see, touch and feel the qualities of natural wood.  One of the pleasures of living is an opportunity to enjoy the unique almost lost art of handcrafted wood creations. OUTATHEWOODS Artisan exists to create such things. My works will change the dynamics of your home or office offering functionality and a unique example of one of a kind high quality craftsmanship.  Owning a piece of functional art which has been created away from the hustle and bustle of city life is my way to give back to you, a piece inspired by the beauty of British Columbia’s Shuswap region.  My Home.
